Illuminate your Front Door

by Cusack Lighting 20 Oct 2023

A front door should be a welcoming entrance to your home, but there are many ways to make it more inviting...

The main front door entrance is the first thing that guests see when they arrive at your home. It should be clean, clutter free and well-lit especially crucial as night falls earlier as winter nears. We have some tips and inspiration to help you achieve that welcome feeling for your guests…

Light up your front door

The first area people see when they visit is your front door, so it’s important that it looks inviting to your warm, cosy home. Apart from adding dimension to with space with decorative accents (such as potted plants, garden ornaments, door mat), lighting up the entryway can be achieved with recessed lights or spotlights above or around the front door. This will create a bright glow in the evening hours that is sure to warm anyone’s heart upon arrival!

Single outdoor pendants suspended from your porch can create a captivating focal point, casting a warm and inviting glow that welcomes you and your family home.

If you don’t have a porch, then a wall light either side of the door is also nice touch that can be wired to a switch indoors, that will light your guests' face from straight. This is also useful if you are using the peep hole to identify who is at your front door before opening it. Lanterns positioned near the entrance add a touch of enchantment, casting soft, diffused light that guide guests with a subtle elegance.

Illuminate your walkway

If you have an area outside where you can walk from the street into your home, consider installing pathway lighting along that route. Pathway lights don’t need to be bright enough for reading; they just need to provide enough illumination for safety when walking through dark areas at nightfall. A couple of LED up/down lights or ground bollards along a flagstone path or brick patio makes for an elegant safe entrance.

Secure & Safe

Remember, as much as we like our home to feel and look inviting, we don’t want to attract the wrong visitors! Lighting also helps to reduce crime by making your home more visible to passersby, deterring potential criminals from targeting your property. We also have a range of PIR/motion sensor lighting which automatically light up your entranceway when it detects a car or visitor arriving at your home.
